The following are some of the most frequently
asked questions we have answered for customers
purchasing windows for new home construction
or when renovating.
Is there a benefit to buying windows
made on Vancouver Island?
At Thermoproof we build our own sealed units using
a double seal method. This means the sealed glass
units are not transported to the island. Our second
seal is designed to strengthen it's bond in moist
weather, making it the perfect product for the
west coast.
How do I choose between 'Nail-On' or
'Renovation' windows?
'Nail-On'' is the first choice for new construction
but also used in some renovations. For example, if
you were removing your windows and siding to replace
both, then ‘Nail-On' windows would be a good choice.
If you're replacing current wood, or aluminum windows
then Renovation windows will be the most cost effective.
Our dealers are able to remove your old windows and
install new windows in a variety of applications - and
usually without disturbing the exterior fascia of
your house.
What should I use? Sliders, casement, awnings,
or picture windows?
Each has their own design characteristics. Some homes
use a combination (ie casement and picture) depending
on the requirement of the room. Is the window opening
to a view? Is circulation or fresh air a higher priority?
Looking for a unique architectural element? Our approved
dealers will help you make an informed decision.
What do I have to do for maintenance?
Fortunately Thermoproof windows, patio doors, and skylights
are all vinyl so they are extremely durable and will
maintain their strength and colour. They are virtually
maintenance free, vinyl never needs painting, and will
not pit, peel, rot, dry out or corrode.
